Bite Has Become a Certified Green Restaurant® - The First in Northern Nevada and Tahoe!
Bite has recently been recognized by the Green Restaurant Association as a 2-star Certified Green Restaurant®. As a Certified Green Restaurant®, BITE conforms to the rigorous environmental guidelines set by the Green Restaurant Association in the following categories:
- Energy
- Sustainable Food
- Water Efficiency
- Waste Reduction & Recycling
- Disposables
- Chemicals & Pollution Reduction
- Sustainable Furnishings & Building Materials
Over the past year Bite has upgraded to energy-efficient lighting, high-efficiency spray valves, and recyclable and/or biodegradable to go packaging. In-house waste is already reduced due to Bite’s use of non-disposable dishes, cutlery, and glassware. We are also committed to providing in house training to our staff to ensure that we are implementing green policy on a daily basis.
Although earning this distinction has taken its fair share of time and effort, we here at Bite feel that we are only doing our part. As expressed by Thomas McCarthy, one of Bite's owners and operators, "Living and working in a place as naturally beautiful as Lake Tahoe, it is hard not to be concerned with the environment. Like any initiative, "going green" has costs, but in this case the benefits far outweigh them. We are fortunate to be able to see our business operating for years to come. It is only appropriate that we consider the impact our good fortune will have on the world around us."
As such the process of going green is an ongoing commitment. We are excited to have earned our 2-star rating and look forward to working with the GRA to add more stars in the future!
Leading Tahoe Green Businesses
BITE is also a committed participant in the effort to create more sustainable business practices locally. We have been certified by the Keep the Sierra’s Green Association as a Green Business Leader. This organization also recognized BITE’s efforts with an award for Green Activity in Incline Village.

Green Vision Keeps Bite on a Sustainable Locavore Path
Bite Restaurant's owners, Thomas and Brooke McCarthy, are invested in making choices that support a green and sustainable philosophy. Our menu features organic and whole foods from local, in-season food sources whenever possible - that's the secret to a 'green' menu. We take that attitude one step further by cooking from scratch - transforming the flavors of the season and the region into a diversity of delicious dishes. That's Bite Restaurant.
